During 2009, we hopefully reached a turning point in improving our local government by getting regular people involved in our political process.
I was privileged to be joined in our One Jersey City coalition this past year by candidates Emilio DeLia, Andrew Hubsch, Norrice Raymaker and Doug Salters and by hundreds of others who came together to support our issue-based reform campaign.
We now have much to be optimistic about – many people who never were involved in politics before made a campaign contribution, knocked on doors, handed out literature, and even ran and won party committeeperson seats. In the aftermath of the corruption scandal that broke on July 23rd, our City Council adopted long-time-in-coming redevelopment pay-to-play reform, and recently, close to 200 members of the public filled City Council Chambers to learn about serving on municipal boards, commissions and authorities.
