Carol Lester is an education activist and community organizer. Over the past two decades, she has spearheaded projects and served on boards in Jersey City that helped thousands of children and hundreds of families improve their educational and environmental well-being. Carol was part of a team of parents who founded and oversaw the Learning Community Charter School (LCCS), one of the state’s top-performing charter schools. She served on its board for seven (7) years, in six (6) of them as board president. During this period she was a trained, certified, and active member of the New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSB). Leading up to this effort and service, she worked with dedicated Jersey City families to lobby for charter school legislation in Trenton.
“I am proud of the American system of free public education for all. At this critical time of decreasing accountability and rising taxes, I feel compelled to step in and become part of a solution for our local public schools.”
“I will use my business, educational, and parenting background to deliver better learning services to our children while reducing non-essential spending. I know it’s possible — because I’ve done it!
